Private tours with a driver: local notes and planning
Private tours on the French Riviera with your own driver
The Riviera packs an extraordinary variety into a narrow strip of coast: clifftop villages, perfume fields, modern art museums, gardens, harbours and vineyards. Coach tours cram these into rigid schedules, while renting a car means parking, navigation and no wine at lunch. A private tour with a chauffeur gives you the best of both: you decide the places, the order and the pace, and someone else drives. This page presents our most popular itineraries, with practical advice, and explains how to book a day that fits you.
How our private tours work
You choose a theme or a list of places, tell us your hotel and your preferred start time, and we propose a route with timings. The tour usually lasts between six and eight hours, though we can shorten or extend it. Your chauffeur drives, shares local knowledge and suggests places for lunch, but is not a certified tour guide.
Itinerary one: Èze, La Turbie and Monaco
This is the classic. Leave Nice or Cannes mid-morning, take the Moyenne Corniche to Èze for the old village and the exotic garden, continue to La Turbie for the Trophy of Augustus and its view over Monaco, then descend to the Principality for lunch and an afternoon at the harbour, the palace or the casino square. Return along the coast at sunset.
Itinerary two: Grasse, Gourdon and Mougins
For lovers of scent and food. Start with a perfumery in Grasse, where you can see the factory and perhaps create your own fragrance, then walk the old town. Continue to Gourdon for the views over the gorges, and finish with a long lunch in Mougins, a village with some of the region's best restaurants.
Itinerary three: Antibes, Biot and Saint-Paul-de-Vence
The art lover's day. Begin with the Provençal market and the Picasso Museum in Antibes, continue to Biot for its glassblowers and the Fernand Léger museum, then drive to Saint-Paul-de-Vence for the ramparts, the galleries and the Fondation Maeght. End the day with dinner at a terrace in the village.
Itinerary four: Menton, Roquebrune and the Italian border
A day of gardens and quiet. Start in Menton with the seafront and the old town, visit one of the great gardens, then continue to Roquebrune-Cap-Martin for the castle village and the coastal path. If you wish, cross the border to Ventimiglia for the Friday market or the Balzi Rossi caves, before returning for an evening on the Menton seafront.
